The best places for Indonesian food in Tuban (or anywhere for that matter) is off the main road. Wander down any of the many gangs & if there are several Balinese eating there, then give it a try. Often they aren't open for dinner - daytime mainly.

I too have only ever become ill from eating a hotel buffet, in over 20 years of going to Bali.

We spent a while in Tuban - ate warung food daily - we usually did it bunkus so we could eat it in our aircon hotel room (always have kecap manis & sambal lampung on hand) with our own cutlery. I just prefer not eating from plates & cutlery only rinsed in cold water. The Kathmandu shops have a great little compact cutlery set.
