For the last time, I awoke at 4am heeding the Cleric's call to the residents of the Febris Hotel for morning prayers. It was time to check out of the Febris and head up the road. For the last three days of our trip we booked a loft room at the Hard Rock. It ended up being cheaper than the Dynasty and so much better.

When we arrived, George the head of concierge took us on a personal tour of the site and was really fantastic with the kids. Although our room wasn't ready, they gave us another temporary room and passes for free drinks and a free cabana by the pool.

While waiting for the room, we went swimming in the huge pool - easily the best in Bali. It's worth spending a day there even if you're not a guest. There are waterslides for the kids, plus regular free activities throughout the day.

The resort facilities are first class and the gym junkies will love the Gym. The kids club is also one of the best I have seen. Breakfasts were excellent and the evening buffet was good value and excellent quality food.

The loft rooms are first class with three queen size beds, really good bath and shower and it also comes with access to a second VIP pool (which is nice in the afternoons to just chill out and it is cooler than the main pool). The only down side of the loft rooms might be that when the band plays each night you can hear them in most of the rooms, but that's part and parcel of being at the Hard Rock. The band finishes at midnight each night. If you want a quieter room, request blocks 1 or 2 which are at the back.

I liked the stereos in each room and the Hard Rock Hotel radio station that narrowcasts into all of the rooms.

Each night we took the kids down to watch the band at 8:30, something we could not do back home. Our youngest son, who is 8 got up with the band and danced and sang with the lead singer and had a great time - certainly something he won't forget for a long time. Entry is free and people from outside the resort can come in, so consider a night out at the Hard Rock even if you're not staying there.

On the last day we hired a poolside cabana which was a great (need to book at least one day ahead, and I recommend #26), stress free way to wind down before the flight. We were genuinely sad to leave the Hard Rock and will definitely stay there again next trip. They really try to make your stay with them something different.

Sadly, it is all over for another year, can't wait for the next trip.

Thanks to everyone who provided interesting information, especially Didiaust, for lots of great little tips.
