We have stayed at the Hard Rock a number of times over the years. The "superior" rooms are quite small and tired, but do the job. All superior rooms are quite a walk from the main pool, but nothing too drastic. We have found no issue with loud music etc in any of the rooms, as some have reported, but we have had issues with loud guests in the corridors at night. The rooms are not very sound proof.
Our last stay in Hard Rock, we chose the deluxe rooms. They are pretty much the same as the superior, but they are in the wing close to the main driveway and yes, there is a small pool with access from these rooms only, although not direct. The ground floor rooms would be the closest you get to direct access.
Last time in Bali, we did not stay at Hard Rock, but still visited for at least one day, as the pool is great, although also getting a little tired. The cabanas are fantastic and our young kids love them. We have never had crowd issues in at least 6 visits. Can always get sun lounges or cabana, although, if you want a specific cabana, it is worth booking in advance (a few days only is enough).
We like this hotel, we like the location, the kids club, the food, the pool is great and it is all a bit of fun. Food and beverage is definitely over priced for Bali standards, but that is to be expected. It is a short walk to nearby stores and restaurants, plus the main Kuta beach.
We are going again in April next year, but again, not staying at Hard Rock, although will visit for a day. We love the hotel, but think there is better overall value to be had elsewhere. Having said that, we do really like it - Balinese American mix of something. Have fun.
