We fly from Bali - Jakarta - Medan with Garuda (did this in September)
Garuda is generally more expensive than other airlines, but it's our preferred airline.
How much it will cost you will depend on
1. If you fly, which airline you choose, how far ahead you book, availability, time
2. Where are you going to fly to.. Medan, Pekanbaru ...
3. How are you getting from whichever airport to Pelalawan (cost of driver and/or car)
4. If you don't fly direct, which combination are you going to use?..fly, ferry, boat, drive.
We found booking flights from Bali to Sumatra with Garuda was much cheaper organising it in Bali rather than doing it ahead of time in Australia.
We used a travel agent as we had limited time & the Garuda office was too busy at the time.
Garuda website lists schedule info & surprise fares/specials on their website.
Work out your itinerary, how much time you have to spare, travel route & method of travel, then decide which airline or ..& then use their websites for general pricing.
Re hotel, you may have to book one in the nearest larger town, as perhaps Pelalawan may not have many or they may be very basic (perhaps ask your friend about this / accommodation options ?)
If you do a google search for Pelalawan accommodation very little comes up, but for Pekanbaru accommodation there are quite a few sites.
