there is an 'intro' dive that you can do and that is where you have minimal instruction and are taken with an instructor to a minimum depth. this is a good way to see if you like diving or not.

the next step should really be open water diver course. this typically costs around aud350 per person in bali. this is a 3-4 day course which will give you your licence in the end (this is mailed to your home address as it has to come from PADI). you will be able to dive to depths of around 18 metres.

i would say that this is the one you should do.

there are a lot of dive companys in the sanur area. you wont find anyone diving around the legian area as there is nothing to see. the really good diving is on the east or north coast of bali.
