Have ended up with myself and two little kids going 4 days earlier (yeh for me!!) and my husband and son will fly in together a few days later. I took note of replies and had to admit I was alot more comfortable with him flying by himself than he was. We did have trouble coming thru VOA in June and got a bit scammed so I think that worried him a bit, not the actual flight itself.
The insurance issue is interesting. Don't know how he would have gone. I have to email them now as previously when the baby and I had travelled separately and met up with the family I had to buy two different policies as we weren't flying together. Will see!!
