Collected by Connie & Made at 8.30am and set off to visit SD3 Sembung school where our sponsor child Sri attends school. I had contacted Agung at thr Rotary club in Denpasar to arrange the visit and also to arrange for a bike to be delivered to the school for Sri. The trip to the school was once agian filled with learning about Bali and learning some basic words!! Connie is more than happy to share her life with you and explain anything about Bali you may not be sure of. Made is the one to check with for bartering skills-he will tell you the best price you should pay:0)and laughs when you tell him how much you really did pay:0)
The school visit was the highlight of my trip to Bali. We arrived at the gates of the school to so many happy smiling & inquisitive little faces. I had made inquiries with Agung as to what the school might need that I could bring and was advised sporting equipment, so I had a large bag filled with all sorts of balls a couple of AFL footys and a couple of cricket sets. The balls were easy to transport as we just deflated them and then took a pump to leave at the school. My kids had their eyes very opened as to how well they have it at school when you see how basic these schools are. The children were doing dancing lessons and sport when we arrived. We were taken to the office and met with the principal who greeted us warmly with still many smiling faces following us. The children were very taken with Samantha my daughter who is 5ft11" and very very fair with white blonde hair. She said they kept poking her:0) The children were just amazing and so open to our visit. Sri is a very quiet and shy little girl who I think was quite over whelemed a bit. Her bike arrived and thnaks to Connies wonderful help with translation- all morning mind you - Sri was presented with her new bike. Some of the other kids at the school had the same type of bikes so I assume they were given by sponsor families. The Rotary club do a great job and should be commended and anyone thinking of doing this please do it is the most worthwhile thing. Also we all decided little boys are the same worldwide-they all wanted their photos taken and posed away.....
Anyway back to Sri she is the most beautiful little girl and when we asked if we would like to visit her her home we were very honoured. We met with her Mum and baby sister, once word spread of visitors the neighbours all came in as well. Once again thankyou to Connie, Made & Agung for their asssitance with translations. Next goal in life -learn some Indonesian!!
We said our goodbyes and set off back to BGH filled with happiness at meeting Sri and her family and can't wait to visit the school and Sri again.
Set off to meet with Nicno and Bali travellers at the Lokha as pre-arranged-well so I thought- got there inquired after the gathering to be met with blank looks. Oh well we decided lets wait for awhile and see. Well after about 30 mins decided something wrong either I got the date wrong or something happened, lets eat. The meal her was really nice and well priced so all was not lost. Got back to the BGH and checked the email I had printed off- you guessed it - I got the wrong date:0( Never mind all was not lost we discovered an new place to eat!!!
Next off to Waterbom
