I have never been to BIMC but I have expereince of several others.
Sanglah - my son was born here. They put both his legs in plaster casts claiming he was bow legged and wanted to keep him in for 6 weeks so the casts could be changed weekly, as he grew. As we wanted to bring him back to Lombok we said we would treat him there.
Specialist in Mataram (Lombok) said the casts would have to be changed every week for 6 months at 1 million per week. I just didnt have that kind of money. We decided to try elsewhere, especially as the specialist hadnt even examined my son. After running round in circles for days trying to see doctors and finding some but who wouldnt change the casts, and then a public holiday which meant hospitals were only open for emergencies I removed them myself. We then took him to the public hospital in Praya once they were open again. We were told his legs were absolutely normal for a new born baby. 2 Years on he is fine.
SOS - both me and my son went there with exactly the same symptoms. I was diangosed with whooping cough but they said his was bronchitis. My treatment eased the symptoms immediately and I didnt have to be treated again. My son had to return several times a week for several weeks, eventually they said he too had whooping cough. The whole ordeal cost millions and I cant help but think if they treated him for whooping cough in the beginning he would have been fine, like me.
Kasih Ibu (Kedonganan) - The paedriatician (did I spell that right?) Dr Dyah is very good. She is the one who finally diagnosed the health problems my son has. She takes the time to explain everything to me. Avoids the use of antibiotics and steroids unless absolutely neccessary. As my son is Indonesian nationality his treatment there is affordable. (though recently we seem to be paying more for our consultations than other Indonesian children!)
For a foreigner being treated at Kasih Ibu the basic consultancy charge is Rp500,000. If you are on a KITAS Rp250,000. I have only been treated there once and appeared to pay more for my medications too as they cost over Rp350,000 for anti nausa pills.
Surya Husada - Kedonganan
Took my son here with diarrhea and vomitting. The only examination the doctor did was taking his temperature. He spent more time asking me about my status in Bali and my business in Lombok. He then diagnosed flu and even though I doubted it was I thought I would try the medication for a day or two. He added a bottle of Sanmol (paracetamol for kids) to the Bill and when I said I had heaps at home he refused to remove it. The consultation cost Rp100,000 5 x the cost of their sister clinic in Nusa Dua.
Surya Husada - Nusa Dua
Rp20,000 to see a GP more for a specialist. They have never overcharged me and I have generally found them to be very good. Although I no longer live in the Nusa Dua area because of my experiences with other more local doctors - this is where I will go for treatment for myself from now on.
