Our son bought his very first guitar in Bali in 1997 it was a lovely black Yamaha electric one and from memory cost about $100 but the exchange was only about 2,000Rp to AUD. In 2005 we bought an acoustic electric for $90, an electric bass $110 and an electric guitar for about $100. In July 2006 our son bought an electric Ibanez RGX model with 5 sets of strings, strap, 6 metre lead and a hard case all for $285 from King Audio JL Bedugal 51 Denpasar as they seem to always have the best prices. Their email is king@dps.centrin.net.id
As for bringing them back to Australia we just took them on as hand luggage and have never been charged any extra, I think that someone once told us that you can bring sport and music instruments for free. This year I brough back an electronic keyboard and took it on as hand luggage with no questions asked. Have a great time
