I must apologise about how long I am leaving between my JBR's. It's been a real struggle getting back into the every day life of work and just the Bali Blues in general. I'm happy to report that I'm feeling much better about the world now that we've booked with Virgin in March, and even better it's DIRECT from Bris Vegas. Yayyyy. Anyway on with it...
We (3 girls) had decided we'd had enough of the men shopping with us - "What do you need that for" - "You already have 5 handbags" - "That's not going to fit in the suitcase" so we needed a day out shopping without the men. A day where we could go anywhere we liked without their input and lets face it, they really don't want to be there after a little while anyway.
I had a brainwave of an idea that we could book Wayan for the day and he could take us where we wanted to go. Saves having to catch taxi's and we can leave our shopping in the car so we don't have to carry it around. Wayan acted excited about the idea, but did he really know what he was in for?
We set off at around 9 - Had Abba playing in the CD player and headed for Sukawarti markets. This is our favourite place for buying paintings and little niknaks. We bought paintings, table runners, little timber animals and about 15 sarongs for gifts. Wayan was fabulous, he wasn't with us but always seemed to know where we were. As soon as we had a bag or 2 he would come and get it and take it back to the car. When we were getting a bit hot, he would turn up with cold bottles of water. Now where do you find a guy like that??
We spent about 3 hours at Sukawarti before heading to Ramayana. Guess what? More handbags. We also stocked up on Biokos and Olay. The Revlon range wasn't good this trip. Matahari's in Kuta seemed to have more.
We were in desparate need of some sustanance so we headed to Pizza Hut. We invited Wayan to have lunch with us and he accepted with a big smile. During lunch he told us that "In Bali Pizza Hut is the place to be seen". Wow we'll have to remember that.
It was good to sit down and recoup, have a nice cold drink and some food. We then headed off to Matahari's in Denpasar. This is the first time I have been here. It appears much more upmarket than the one in Kuta. After a mooch around here we were back in the car. We still had to get to Geneva. It was about 5 by now and we were pretty worn out. Abba was out and Wayan had some nice relaxing Balinese music for us to chill out to.
Our stamina had really packed it in. We got to Geneva and filled a trolley on the first floor. Sadly I have to confess, we just couldn't do anymore. We paid for our items and had to leave the other floors till next time. We were beat. We got downstairs to the car and it turns out Wayan was too. He was fast asleep with his seat laid back in the car. We woke him up and headed home.
We had a fabulous day. We shopped till we dropped. The back of the car was full with bag on top of bag of shopping. Wayan is now going to add "Retail Therapy Days" to his tours. He is the perfect host and really looks after you to make sure you are ok. If you want his details send me an email.
It was a huge day. Normally we would only do one of these places in a day but we had a great time. It just made the icy cold Bintangs taste even better when we collapsed at the end. If you have any questions feel free to ask.
