I use the search facility but it is not very good. It can throw up heaps of responses many of which are not relevant so you end up scrolling through a ton of posts and replies which are not much use. It is not too bad on simple questions but if you ask anything at all complex it doesn't filter the crap out. It also doesn't pick up spelling mistakes and shorthand ways of describing things.
So, it's often easier to just ask the question and hope that someone helpful will respond. There will always be grumps like Rangatira, but you can just ignore them and concentrate on the helpful answers. I really don't see why it gets up people's noses so much. If you don't like a question, just move on.
