Had difficulties in the past making a legitimate claim with a policy underwritten by Mondail Assisance. Had to threaten them with the insurance ombudsman before they came to the party. It was only a minir claim for $158- for travel delay and other members of our travelling party of 10 who were also covered by the same company and claimed similar amounts had their claims processed without any problem. They initially denied my claim, however after some rather heated debate and correspondence they saw the light and paid up.
Have tried several different policies over the years but most are underwritten by only a handful of insureres and in most cases the cover is pretty standard across all policies. I have heard of several cases where there were medical emergencies and a quick phone call back to their insurer in Australia had emergency respone on the scene in minutes. I think these policies were arranged through Medicare Private whom I seem to recall are also underwritten by Mondail so I think that in a real emergency whichever policy cover you select will provide peace of mind and assistance in times of real crisis. Just make sure the policy covers you for emergency evacuation and medical payment guarantees to the local hospitals /doctors as in the unlikely case of hospital admission you can be asked to pay thousands of dollars up front before they will treat you.
