Much nicer in my opinion, the rooms had an small outdoor area with outdoor table and chairs and you can enjoy the gardens.. To me, upstairs was a bit like staying in a block of flats..but then each to their own.
Also it's not a hike to use the pool area or go to breakfast. (I'm the forgetful type who constantly has to run back to my room from the pool or brekky for my sunnies or wallet or whatever!!)
I wasn't too bothered about the walk upstairs to reception (which by the way is pretty speccy).
Don't stress too much..it's a 4 star hotel..it's just not my cup of tea..you may love it as do others on this site.
