Filo posted on here recently that Virgin did NOT book baggage through to Garuda as part of the interline agreement (ie Adelaide, Brisbane etc).
I attach copy of email from Virgin.
I suggest anybody traveling this way print out the reply & use it if they have trouble getting their luggage booked through.
Hi Dennis,
Thanks for your reply.
Our Interline agreement with Garuda Indonesia provides our guests with the opportunity to travel without loosing time, with the facility of through baggage check-in, transportation provided between terminals and the high quality guest service of each airline partner of the agreement.
All guests who have a Virgin Blue connection and are travelling with any of our Interline Partners, will have the facility of through baggage check-in to their final destination. I have included details of the check-in process in Melbourne for your reference:
Outbound
1. Depart aircraft in domestic terminal. For guests travelling outbound from Australia, and connecting with interline flights, the guest's bags will be checked through to their final interline destination (up to 3 sectors). 2. Exit Virgin Blue domestic terminal. 3. Go up escalators to International check-in. 4. Go to guest service desk at check-in of your International Airline. NB. Refer to airport information screens for location of your International Airline.
Inbound
1. Passengers to collect baggage and clear Immigration & Customs. 2. Turn right and follow signs to Virgin Blue domestic terminal check-in. 3. Check-in at Virgin Blue domestic terminal at the dedicated International check-in counter. 4. Clear security and proceed to departure gate.
If a guest chooses to make a booking for their Virgin Blue flight independently of Garuda Indonesia (For example, a booking made directly via our website), their booking will not be classed as an Interline booking and they will therefore not receive the benefit of through baggage check-in. Interline bookings can be made via any travel agent worldwide using the GDS booking system, or directly with the international airline.
I hope this information is helpful to you and the other Bali Travel Forum members. If you require any further clarification, please don't hesitate to contact us again.
Kind Regards,
Cassie
