We stayed about a year and a half ago at Pondok Ayu - and loved it. Gede it terrific but to us, what made it special was the size of the property, only four rooms - no towels on sun lounges here!! Gede is also part of the attraction, he was just terrific, slowing traffic for me on the bypass when I expressed a desire for a banana pancake in the evening. Nothing is too much trouble. Tricky to find for a taxi driver, you will need to take note of how to get there when you first arrive.
It was very quiet, we were the only ones there for the night that we stayed. It is a really personal place, if they had other rooms booked then I am sure you would enjoy meeting people there.
I would take it hands down over the Griya - but then we have sworn never to stay in another big hotel, despite enjoying the Puri Santrian a few years ago. Unfortunately we changed our plans so arent staying there this year, but maybe next year!!
