Wish I had experienced it back then. I didn't get there until 1999. Recently travelled to Tarawa, Kiribati and wondered if that was sort of what Bali was like in the 70's and 80's - before too many tourists and hotels. Completely different culture of course, but basic living and no sign of supermarkets and big hotels. Pigs, dogs and children running around the little family hotel I stayed in.
