Tanah Lot is out of the action, quieter and a little remote but as Zabowskee said its whatever you like.
First time I stayed in Bali was in Legian, which really is not much different to Kuta (my opinion), just a little less full on, but I loved it because I knew I was going to see other parts of Bali as well and I wanted to be close to restaurants and shops. I like the balance of being able to chill out in a hotel and then step out the door to all that wonderful stuff. I am not the sort of person who can while away the days doing nothing, may be you guys will be, honeymoon and all!
You can always get taxis/drivers to wherever you want to go.
Tanah Lot is a beautiful area.
No matter what, Bali will pull you in and seduce you, no matter where you stay, truly!
