We flew Merpati to Lombok last January and found the plane really old... the lap tray kept falling open into my lap and the stewardess had a lot of trouble closing the overhead compartments. Also the lights in the plane kept fashing on and off like the globes needed changing. But having said that we had the best take off and landing of any flight we have had. We didn't even feel a bump on landing it was sooo smooth. They give you a little snack box as you get on with a roll and a bottle of water in it... pretty good for a 20 minute flight.
I loved the Gili's. They are one of my favourite places! Loved the Irish pub on Gili Trawangen, you can chose a DVD and sit in your own little hut watching it while you eat your dinner! We ate there nearly every night.
