We always take all our money in cash, although we only take $4,000, and we stay at hotels that don't have safes. We usually put it in a locked bag in our room but if we are a little suss about where we are staying sometimes we keep it with us. Your travel Insaurance actually covers cash that you have on your person, but not left in rooms or the car unless in a boot of a car and not in view.
