As long as you have a safe at all of your accommodation, then you can put the bulk of your cash in the safe and just carry around enough for each day.
As Dennisc mentioned, it's no problem to use Atm's, but if you have the cash then you will save on withdrawals fee's at atm's. If you have a Commonwealth Bank account there are quite a few Commonwealth atm's now in Kuta. Legian and Sanur..and the withdrawal fee's are only $2.00. per transaction. If using other atm's the fee's can vary from $5.00. to $8.00. depending on the size of your withdrawal.
Cash is the best option, and it's always good to have an atm card and mastercard for back-up.
