Although I didn't stay in a standard room, I met people who were in them, and stay in them every trip, they are regulars there. There have been some which have been done up recently.
But it is a budget hotel and if you only use the room to sleep and shower etc, then you will be A OK.
I found the hotel itself absolutely gorgeous. I hate at the restaurant too and the food was nice. Brekki is your average buffet and sometimes you need to get in early to get the fresher food, but to me it was fine.
It is a very peaceful place to stay, brilliant location and don't be worried about the laneway to get to the hotel. It is lit up and has security guards on it. I travelled on my own and felt completely safe.
You will really enjoy it.
