It happened to me, and I am here to tell you that yes it reappeared in my bag, which had already been searched. The police MADE me go into the bathroom with a young lass who had help clean the room. While I was there (very humiliating for both her and me, as she stripped for me to search her) the polici took hubby to the side and talked 1 on 1. Then police asked where were keys to my suit case. HHHMM bag opened. Wasn't like that 10 mins earlier and what do ya know................ stolen item was right there.
Now the Balinese guy had saved face and the polici were seen to be doing a fine job.
I was so relieved to have my chain back, paid the polici a donation for a job well done.
The hotel staff weren't impressed as the ploici came to the hotel to investigate. Didn't look good for them I suppose.
Bad luck tho, as my chain was worth around $1,200.00AUD.
