We have never used repellant on a baby that young and have only used kids rid on our kids when they are over 2 years. When my baby was 16 months on our last visit we used a spray from coles supermarket called OFF, its in an orange container on the shelves with the aerogaurd and risd and it specifies it can be used under 12 months. I would do as others have said and spray around the baby and the pram and use a net. We always take the bulk mossie coils and tin to put them in and light mossie coils at our hotel room door and at the balcony and always spray the room with mossie spray before we go out to dinner. Our kids have never been eaten alive and rarely get bitten.
When eating out always ask for the restaurant to burn coils.
Put the net on the babys cot at night and when you take bub out in the pram keep the net on the pram as well and you shouldnt have too much trouble.
Check with your doctor and pharmasist but i dont think they would recommend rid on a 5month old as they only recommend the non tropicall rid on my 8 and 11 year old.
Always dress bub in long sleeved and legged cotton outfits when you go out and that reduces the amount of skin exposed.
Have a great time Bali is the best place with kids.
