They're those ugly rubber sandals with canvas and velcro straps. Sounds like they're not popular there! Maybe it's an American thing. You wear them in rainy, muddy, or beach settings where it's too hot or wet for sneakers or hiking shoes. Maybe you don't need that kind of thing there. Does it rain up high; should I bring a light rain parka?
