There are also many people on the streets buying second hand gold, who can determine the purity on the spot.
These people are far more expert than typical Western trinklet buyers, who rely on appearance and sales guff when buying in Australia.
I believe that if one of the established gold shops in Denpasar "ripped off" a local in some way, the shop may not still be there the following morning!!
