I have booked lots of accomodation directly with hotels in Bali.
I have also used Mida, a Bali Travel agent and all of our bookings have been as expected. Most times we have not paid up front.
I think its important to re-confirm your booking closer to your arrival date.
Its just that scary feeling of being left without a room and no-where to sleep. In reality, I dont think it will happen.
