They use freehand... I had one done on my Back by Mr. Dolphin he was good... their names are Made & Wayan.... Nice Guys.
I have another on my ankle aswell got it from another tatooist in Bali but would never go back to that one - Bulldog Tattoo... it got infected and i couldnt walk had to wheel chair it in the airport... so if anywhere go to Mr. Dolphin he was really good.
