You can ask for discounts, but it will only be a small discount as margins are already tight.
I suggest that you focus on weight and purity.
Both are marked on the little tags, and it allows you to compare like with like.
In each shop where you find something, take their card, and get the price written on it.
weight will be marked on tag in grams, and purity in a % IE 70% - 80% etc.
They will also size for you, and alter if neccessary.
If you have any "old gold", take it along, and barter it yourself (now you are the seller!!), and get some cash to suppliment your purchase.
Just approach any of the women sitting on the stools along the St for a price.
