If your hubby hasn't checked into the resort before he starts his travels then they may be unwilling to hold his Passport.
When travelling around I wear my Passport, cards & money in a money belt. When I've reached a brief destination if there is no in-room safe then I leave them in my suitcase, padlocked (with copies of Passport, t/cs in my shoulder bag).
My hubby spends at least 2 months/year travelling around Indonesia surfing - he uses a pouch that hangs from his neck en route & padlocks as above.
Be sure that you have a photocopy of his Passport, Travel Insurance Policy & details of card numbers - & he should have the same for you.
