Sunday 10 August
Feeling a little under the weather this morning due to excess alcohol and lack of quality sleep. We were woken by a mother standing outside of our room who was yelling at her child who was down the other end of the corridor. Not happy Jan! Why are some people so inconsiderate of others? A quick phone call back home to my mum as today was her birthday and then headed up for breakfast. I decided I required a little more sleep before starting the day so while I slept, Renae went for a little wander locally to investigate. After a couple of hours of failed attempts for more sleep due to the noise factor outside our room it was time to emerge and get the day started. We headed across the road to enjoy a relaxing day at Waterbom Park. I am not a waterslide person but I love the lazy river. I am still waiting for hubby to build me my own lazy river at home. I have a feeling I could be waiting a lifetime for that one though. Renae did get up the courage to try out a couple of the slides while I choose to relax and catch some rays.
After a couple of hours here it was mutually decided that our first massage was now overdue so we headed off to the spa at Waterbom to check out the prices. Although the prices are cheap compared to home we knew we could get better elsewhere so we left to find a local spa with better prices. We ended up at a new salon and spa in a little lane off Jalan Kartika Plaza called My Angel. We opted for a full body massage followed by a hair creme bath. This is the first time I have experienced a hair creme bath. Other than the slaps to the head (part of the head massage), which had us in fits of laughter, we thoroughly enjoyed this pampering and our hair felt so soft. After our spa we headed down to Jalan Sahadewa and visited Beach Shack Cafe for dinner. We were so relaxed from our massages that we were both practically falling asleep over dinner. The meals and service were fantastic here and we did plan to return. Robby had the night off but we did get to briefly meet his brother who was holding the fort for the night. We did have plans to go to Hulu's but due to being so tired we returned to our hotel to have an early night with plans to return to Hulu's in our second week in Bali. We were both tucked up in bed and asleep by 9 pm.
Monday 11 August
Got up early feeling refreshed after a good nights sleep. Not sure if the noise factor was better or if we were both so tired that we were out cold. We checked out of Bali Garden and ended out to the Animale factory and surf outlets to have a look. My girls had both put in orders for surf gear however having never bought label brands for them at home and them being so fussy it was quickly decided that no purchases would be made here. The girls will have to wait until they return next year and can make their own selections and spend their own money.
We had a lunch date organised with a couple of the Rotarians from the Bali Sanur Rotary Club at a restaurant near Sanur. http://good-timesDOTwebshotsDOTcom/photo/2390932400078547608vjyMsq We had a fantastic lunch and all plans and schedules were finalised for the upcoming distribution day. Arrangements were made for us to attend the Rotary meeting that evening and we were also invited to attend a 30 birthday party in Ubud. We headed off from here to check into the Sanur Beach Villas for a couple of days stay with Ron and Irma.
All checked in and bags dumped in our room (room 3) http://good-timesDOTwebshotsDOTcom/album/565598607DMOnYb we relaxed around the pool for a couple of hours before heading off to the Rotary meeting at the Grand Inna Bali Beach Resort. This resort is very impressive however not our cup of tea. We did have to use the bathroom facilities while here and we both very disappointed with what we found. We had expected something rather grand and were shocked to find dirty toilets and bathroom facilities. Obviously loads of money does not guarantee cleanliness.
After the meeting we headed off with Ketut and his 2 kids to Ubud to attend the 30 birthday party. When we arrived the first thing we noticed was army vehicles and armed guards. It was not until we got inside that we understood why. The birthday girl came from a very influential Balinese family who clearly had a lot of money. In attendance were also members of the Royal family including the King and several princes and princesses. We were the only white people there but everyone was very welcoming a friendly. Throughout the evening there was a constant stream of food and drinks placed in front of us. People were enjoying the karaoke which gave Renae a good laugh due to the words used and pronunciation. Many of the songs were western songs that Renae and I both knew. A couple of the guests tried their hardest to get Renae and I up for a song however thankfully for their ears they did not succeed. We arrived back at Sanur at about 11.30 pm and headed off to bed for a peaceful nights sleep.
More to come
