with reference to your comments re hull losses, a quick check at http://www.jacdec.de/ will show the following with regard to hull losses over the last ten years - with a comparative on Garuda and Singapore Airlines
Garuda - two hull losses
7 March 2007 - yogjarkarta - B737 aircraft ran off runway causing death of 22 people
16 January 2002 - Benjawang Solo River - B737 aircraft was safely landed in river (hull loss none the less) after massive thunderstorm activity and double engine flameout due to weather - death of 1 cabin crew who I believe drowned from being unable to swim - Flight Crew did a miraculous job in saving many lives
Singapore Airlines - one hull loss
31 October 2000 - Teipei-Intl AP - B747 aircraft took off on the wrong runway - collision with maintenance vehicles - 83 deaths
As can be seen these incidents can happen at anytime and by any airlines for a multitude of reasons but to say "One only need look at hull losses over the past five ....." creates an unfair report - these figures do include domestic operations
As to "there have also been a hell of a lot of reports concerning off track operations by Garuda" maybe that needs quantification and substantiation - I could quote numerous anectdotal experiences across a range of airlines and regulatory organisations but that would be unfair
