- the Gold Coast or the Blue Mountains or Rotnest Island. Do things that have a Bali flavour at least and not something thats too westernised and sanitised.
First night certainly the Pantai; get there early for a front row seat as the sun sets over a few Bali Hais or Anker Birs, keep the worms at bay with the occasional satay and watch the change from the day beach to the night beach when the fishing fleet goes through its centuries old sparkling ritual and overhead todays jets turn in to land.
Not WWR on his first trip but Ubud, Kintamani (and stop at the spice farms on the way) and the monkey forest, but frisk him before the monkeys do.
Go to the temple at Pura Batukaru and stop on the way out of the temple as you go down the hill towards the little village there. Try to block out the bitumen road and imagine Bali (or any island in the Pacific) a hundred years ago. Enjoy the superb rice fields at Jatiluih either on the way up or back.
Take in the Subak Museum at Tabanan town and wonder, 'How did they do that?'
