I can only hope and pray that you give a detailed itinerary to family or friends. After working at the consulate for years, and assisting in October 2002, I can't tell you how frustrating it is to have someone call and say "my (insert appropriate description) is missing and I think they are staying in Kuta or Ubud or something". Even worse is the "they were in Bali and were going to be travelling to Thailand at some stage, but we're not sure when".
