That is like the piece of string. My answer to that would be in consideration to the overall time you had at your disposal. It is possible to visit Yogya in a day and some people here talk of one day tours. It also depends in whaat you are interested in. Yogya is a city of history art and culture. If you are interested remotely in any of these three areas you could spend a deal of time there. If its a bit a sightseeing maybe 3 days. The Duta had a price list on the counter of car and driver cost to various places or the day and I thought they were very reasonable. Agree with the other respondant regarding the money changer located at the Inna (not the Inna itself)always very good rate and no rip off. So here are a few things> the two temples Borobudor and Prambanan, The water palace, Sultans palace, Bird market and Jalan Malioboro. Most people would have a look at some of these. Then there are other things such as some of the major craft making of the area (although the there can be a pressure to buy) puppets, silverware, batik and batik art, the Ballet at Prambanan, Paringtritis and other beach areas, Kaliurang and Merapi, Dieng Plateau and Solo. Also as I mentioned before the Via Via cafe has some very interesting and reasonably priced activities that may be of interest.
