Bangkok as a city is absolutely great.
But it is a vital , busy city, it is not a beach resort.
If you are only going there, and only want to basically shop, stay at the Pathumwan Princess.
(It's in MBK center.) You have everything at your door including getting on the skytrain to the water taxis so you can also see some amazing palaces and temples.
It is cheap, but the quality is heaps better than most Bali stalls.
