The last time we were quoted in USD that exact scenario happened. USD - Rupiah - AUD and then through to the credit card with the associated conversion fee.
I would take the US currency and don't forget the include extra USD for the arrival taxes. That is where we did a few dollars on the exchange, as the rate used at the airport was much lower than outside on the street.
Most banks provide a currency conversion on their web sites that allow you to do the calculations.
