This is my 1st jbr, so please forgive the rambling. We first visited Bali 10yrs ago & I always said I would go back, so after convincing hubby, we went. We took a family of Bali virgins with us. S,L & 2 children L & T. We left Melb, with Singapore Airlines on Anzac Day & after a 5 hr stopover in S/pore arrived in Bali at 9.30 pm. We had managed to contact our driver from 10 yrs ago, thankfully he had managed to hold onto his job, and were soon on our way to the Griya Santrian in Sanur. All of us can not say enough good things about the Griya and S/pore airlines. The flights were great and the hospitality extened by the staff of the Griya was first class. We had stayed at the Griya last time, but it was during the 98 elections and they didn,t have a lot of guests at the time. It was wonderful to be back.
Sat. Had to be up to see sunrise in paradise & then a swim before breaky. We ate at The Porch several times, which is about 100m left of the Griyas main entrance, on the other side of the road. Great meals, great staff & great value. Tasted mangosteens for the 1st time, yum, yum! Spent the day wandering, checking out the changes and seeing what we could remember. The beach Hawkers had gone, or so we thought until we headed off on the beach footpath & were promptly pounced on by the ladies from sindhu markets. I guess it is better because you know if you head into their territory, you can be prepared for them. We all got ripped off, as you do on you first day, but it gave us our answer for the rest of the week. We told them they got all our money on Saturday, so we had none left. S,L,L & T were amazed with everything that was available. They had a swimming pool & spa virtually right outside their rooms, beautiful tropical surroundings and abeach out the front. The bintang got a hiding from the fellas & I thought Sun morning might prove interesting as my beloved only drinks light beer. But who would dare mention such a thing. Just like not reminding him about the tap water when cleaning his teeth. He was in such a hurry Sat morning, that he forgot about the water. Out with the rasp juice and the pro travel tablets.
Sun.
Woke in time for sunrise & a walk. Hubby's ok, not a lot of monkeys doing the war dance in his head, yet. Hubby went looking for a stand up paddle board to hire & I went to Kuta as I wanted to order some things from Dolphin Leather. Found Bread Talk, what a great idea. We found a similar shop in S/pore on the way home, but the variety of things wasn't as good. By sunday pm hubby isn't feeling great. Do you blame the water or the bintangs, doesn't really matter, I've still got a sick man.
Mon. Still got a sick fella. He would get up for a while, then have to go & lay down. This is a bloke who can't sit still, if he's not kiteing, he's paddling or out on his m/bike, so I knew it was serious enough when he had to lay down. He had severe nausea, headaches(supposedly not the wardancing monkey type) and the hots and colds.Went to Geneva for the first time and came back with some bargains, then stayed at the hotel for the rest of the day, so I could make sure tablets, etc got taken. Why do some blokes forget to take medication, but don't forget to tell you how crook they are? Perhaps I had better not go any further on that point. Also had a massage, 30 mins for 30,000rp and it was wonderful.
More to come soon.
