dropping out Bali style

I visited Bali several times in the past and always with the wife.I am now single and thinking of dropping off the map for awhile in the States and living in Bali for awhile.Is there anyone who has vacationed there for several months/years?Is it possible to work there if I get bored with goofing off all the time?What would be the cheapest way to stay for an extended time without hotel costs?Cheap housing?Thanks in advanced!
