I think that if your room is provided with a safe then the hotel doesn't have safety deposit boxes at reception - usually one OR the other. Dunno about BGH, sorry. I take my own padlock. I think you can rent safety deposit boxes from banks - but they aren't open all the time, so inconvenient.
You could get a money belt if you are worried about leaving things in a hotel safe. If we're driving around the island & staying at different places, I always use a money belt in transit.
I usually take at least half my money in Travelers Cheques, spend cash first then use the cheques - if they get stolen, no worries. I also put all other things that I'd hate to lose but aren't especially valuable in a padlocked bag in my room - if things are out of sight then people won't be tempted, I figure.
