We had heaps of trouble getting sim cards around that area. We had phones that we thought were unlocked as I tried, and was able to use, other people's sim cards in them. We eventually found a market stall that sold cards on Jalan Padma Utara on the opposite side to the Melasti. They couldn't help with the phone that was locked but were keen for us to give it to them. No tips given on how to make international calls or texts either but I had some info from this forum. We had to bargain for the card as they asked too much.

I've read posts here recently that talk about a booth outside the Bintang supermarket and how helpful the operator is. I'll be heading straight there next time as it's only a short taxi ride away.

For hairdresser I remember walking past a salon called Celebes on Padma Utara also.
