Gill with the tattoos, the main precautions to ensure no fading for the first few weeks is that it's best not to expose tattoos to the sun, and not to soak them in water for too long. Just a quick shower is best.

If he's going to be swimming and soaking in a pool all the time at Ubud then I don't know that would be the best time to do it. Salt waters a definate no no to ensure no fading during the healing stage, but since your in Ubud the beaches wont be a problem.

Although if he's had tattoo's previously and treats the tattoo as he had in the past and avoids soaking the tattoo in water this will ensure he gets the best results.

Applying plenty of Bepanthan cream as your husband mentioned is a definate need for healing.

Just take extra caution, personally I think if there's anyway you could arrange to have them done on your last couple of days then that would be best as he wouldn't have to be so cautios and can enjoy swimming.
