Hi SVP,

First time I went to Bali I was lucky to be in a van with a couple who had been there numerous times, and they told me the following:

* The first question you will be asked is "First time to Bali?" you answer should be No, and when they say "how many times?", say at least twice, and be prepared to name hotels, and have a rough idea of where they are.

Truly, its not that serious. However to give you an idea, to rent a driver with a van for the day, at first bid will be 600,000Rph. When you hesitate, and say how much?, it will drop to 400,000 which I think is pretty good. Remember a 50,000 difference is really bugger all at the end of the day.

The other day, we had a driver take us to Nusa Dua, and wait and then back, and we paid 100,000 each way. I have also done it par way in a cab with meter and it was 91,000, so not far off the mark.

From Sanur to Legian was 60,000 if I remember.

The important thing is to remeber that bargaining is part of their culture, and i should be something that is fun and part of the experience. Even if you get ripped off; it is unlikely to be a huge amount.

Have fun, relax, and enjoy what the balinese people offer.....a great time, and the ability to get o know them.

If you have anymore questions, let me know,

Alfie1
