There is a train station near the airport and it is easy to get into the centre of the city or anywhere else. We explored quite a bit and then caught a taxi back to the airport. We left plenty of time to get back but did find it took about 20 minutes t ofind a cab late in teh afternoon. Allow yourself plenty of time. YOu can leave any excess gear in the left luggage place near the exit. Singapore airport is so easy t oget around and to get info.
On my eay to India on a business trip I hired a room at the transit hotel and was able to leave my gear, go into the city and then have a shower and a nap etc. They are hired by the hour.
