We surfed Medewi but Balian is probably a slightly softer wave, we stayed at a homestay the turnoff before the main one, behind a mosque. We prefer Balian and stayed at Balian surf bungalow for a very cheap price, great views of the surfbreak from the upstairs bed.
We have surfed Lembongan for nine trips now and will be back early June. June is the beginning of the good surf season and waves can be very big. Playgrounds is not as safe as it sounds because the water can get very low on the reef, my husband received 10 stitches at Playgrounds but my son received 3 stitches at Shipwrecks so the danger is there for all the breaks. But there is good medical care for minor injuries.
As far as accomodation there is so much along Jungabatu bay. We stay at Puri Nusa which is directly in front of Shipwrecks and we pay around 70,000rp a night, but there are so many good cheap places.
