flight home recently, to Sydney. I got talking to some girls in the business lounge who took up the offer of extra weight if they paid 150,000Rp, they were also offered $150AUS$ each to upgrade to executive class Bali to Sydney, they just took the lounge offer. We did have some spare seats on the plane so there is no chance of a free upgrade. It is a risk as there may not be spare seats. I think it is best to do it with the booking.
I remember one of our flights, flying with the 2 kids from HK to Bali with Garuda when we arrived at the airport in HK we was informed there is 4 spare seats in business class and since you are first to the airport with children we would like to upgrade you free(Gone are those days)
