The roads were really quiet and there was no traffic or hardly any traffic for the ride.
My kids are 11 and 13 and neither are very sporty but they did it and enjoyed it.
My 11 year old son did probably go downhill a bit faster than I would have liked and certainly faster than I did. He managed to finish 3rd.
I felt it was fairly safe.
Just asked son and he said they told him to not go too fast downhill!!
They could always come off the bike as there are quite a few potholes to dodge.
Son also said he said the biggest downhill bits and up hill bits are right at the end so they could hop off before then. I stopped and rode in comfort for the last bit as i am definately not fit.
I'm a fairly cautious and conservative person about what my kids do and I was happy with it. They stop about every 15-20 minutes to talk about local items and thats a good time to catch up with the kids, find out how they are going, make sure they have water and if needed tell them to slow down.
We didn't hand anything to kids and it was probably easier not to.
You could easily get your daughter to ride directly in front of you to keep a close eye on her.
I understand about the head lice. I've been there with my daughters long thick hair. She didn't catch any this time, but i really don't know what practises they do put in place, although lice are not supposed to be able to live off a person for too long.
I was cautious about my kids ability but we did it and they had a really great time.
