through immigration in Melbourne, but, presumably your baggage is off-loaded and re-loaded in Melbourne so you don't need to collect it and re-check it.
Mind you, as I booked my round-trip flight from Bali for Garuda and internet for Virgin, and not knowing this service was available to be able to ask my travel agent, I was not actually successful 2 weeks ago, but was informed by Virgin that had I booked the complete trip with an agent I would have had no problems (double check with your travel agent though).
Anyhow, there was plenty of time in Melbourne to collect the baggage, check in to Garuda, pass through customs, get the duty-free bottles and board the plane, despite a 10 minute hold up flying into Melbourne.
