I need to go back and add in a couple of things I left out on day one, sorry! (and I can't help being long winded, grab a drink and a snack, there is no intermission!!)
I forgot to mention that after we settled into our room that was set up for a couple who want to share a holiday but not a bed, we went in search of the Bintang supermarket to stock up on all our toiletries and of course Bali's liquid gold -a carton of Bintang beer. Now, I am not a beer drinker so I can't appreciate the fuss that goes on with having that first sip of this amber brew! But,apparently it leaves you craving more. (one Bintang bottle sitting on the wall..... 20 bintang bottles sitting on the wall and if I have just one more Bingtang bottle I may accidentally fall)Sorry, that tune just popped in my head and the words just followed!!
whilst at this supermarket we looked for a sim card for our mobile,as I had unlocked our old nokia over the net before leaving.Don't be tempted to call from home from the hotel it cost me $10 for a few minutes just to let mum know we arrived safely!!
just outside the doors is a stall and he wanted 100,000 for a indosat sim.I thought it was a bit steep compared to prices I had seen on BTF.so we went next door to a phone shop and the same card was 50,000
needless to say we got that one and they set it up,showed me how to call aus as well as mobiles in Bali. Calls were so cheap.
I also needed to have some glasses made for me and my son.So ,I checked out Mr Honey man outside the Bintang, but didn't find any frames that I liked. Now I will add in all fairness to Mr.Honeyman that although his frames are more the classical type and some modern frames,I am a fussy little girl and wanted designer frames. And my son was after Converse frames,so he didin't have what I was after.
DAY 2
I awoke at a sparrows pffft, feeling less than human. But, doesn't matter how I feel I am always ready to eat,so off to try out breaky.
I particularly liked the restaurnt that breaky is served at as it is right on the beach,a nice view of waves rolling in is a good way to start the day.
Now I am going to grade the MBR food in comparison to the Jayakarta and the Bali Hai,as these are the only places we have stayed at.
Out of ten, I would give the MBR a 5,as I felt the quality & variety is more limited, the jayakarta a 7 and the Bali Hai was my favourite with a 10.
But,hey I am not fussy as long as it is edible and won't make me ill,so I enjoyed eating breaky very morning!!
I spent the morning sorting out what stuff to give to who,as we always go back to Tuban and visit our friends that have stalls outside the Bali Hai. Lunch time swung around quickly ,so off to the S.A. Cafe. Hubby had a tripple topper burger, I had bali's best Nasi Goreng (not the chinese fried rice version) a lemon juice and a sml Bintang all for around 70,000!!Do yourself a favour and have a meal there,it is great!!
So full bellied and still feeling hungover,we toddled down to see our friends. As soon as we were within eyesight they started to jump up and call out,Lenny,Meck!!! followed by lots of squealing. There was lots of hugs and kisses.I had my obligatory Manicure and flower nalis painted, whilst catching up on all the gossip.( I love these girls and their families)
Hubby went over to the beach to have a look at the Bali Hai, and I am sad to report that it is in ruins and looks like it hasn't seen a tourist for twenty years :( and won't be open any time soon, everyone has a differing opinion as to what is really going on with the place.
I left my friends with the promise that I will bring them some stuff in the next few days. It's always a challenge to distribute it, a bit like the chip and seagulls effect. We all have a laugh and lots of carry on.Not sure if I am looking forward to it (maybe when I feel stronger)
I decided that Centro would be the place for me to find my frames,so went and had a quick squiz. Yep,plenty to choose from and would still be saving quite a few hundred dollars. As luck has it I found the exact Converse frames that my son had tried on at OPSM perth,on a discount rack!!I saved $250 just on his pair.I was pretty chuffed with that.
ok,I'll try to wind up quickly, we had an afernoon swim in the doughnut pool. This pool was nice and clear the whole time we were there, the front pool at times was cloudy and closely monitored. But no major probs.(closed early one evening I was told)
We decided to stay close to home for dinner and went to the corner bar at the entrance of the MBR.The food wasn't very good, so we didin't eat there again. Hubby's steak was chewy.
Tomorrow... A day at the Hard rock Hotel followed by my one and only bad shopping experience this trip.(I should've punched him in the nose!!)
