I can't help but agree about the kids selling those friendship wristbands, although I probably encouraged the behaviour by buying some from one of them. They make great gifts for my class!!
The little boy's name was Nyoman and I bought them from him because he didn't nag and he asked very politely and left it at that. we saw him every night and he said hello and kept his cousins in order by nudging them and telling them to stop when they nagged tourist too much.
He told us his mother made the bands during the day and the kids sold them in the afternoons and evenings. They all had to be home by 9 o'clock.
How much of this is true I don't know.
My first time daughter and her husband were very overwhelmed by what they saw as constant harrassment in that area...I suppose most of us have learned to ignore or just walk along saying "hello" and "no thank you"!!!
