loved it! We stayed in an Ocean View/Poolside view room at the Holiday Resort Lombok. Beautiful resort located in Senggigi Beach and about 30mins out from Mataram Airport. Great Spa too. Eating out is easy as most Restaurants will pick you up and drop you back at your accommodation. Lombok gives you direct access to the Gili Islands of Gili Air, Gili Trawangan and Gili Meno for the best diving/snorkeling and fishing. You can organise to go on a trek to Mt Rinjani 3725m above sea level or organise a car/driver for the day and tour around the island. Heaps of tours are available. We'd organised a driver to visit the villages on the way to Kuta Beach which is renown for its surfing. Along the way stop off at Sukarare where the traditional Songket cloth is woven and sold. It's interesting to see their handmade looms and how they weave gold and silver thread. Rambitan, which is a traditional Sasak Village (small donation is always appreciated). The Sasak life is one to behold. The men sleep outside the home, under a very low roof made out of thatching whilst the women sleep inside (should have seen my husband's face when the Sasak's relayed this lille bit of information :)). The houses (bale Balak), are constructed from wood and bamboo held together with cow dung. Heaps of pottery villages along the way (worth picking some up) and Kuta Beach/Tanjung Aan is great for surfing, wind surfing and swimming (the south coast has the most amazing beaches).Anyway, that's just for starters. Sorry, I've gone on a bit (LOL). All in all, Lombok is pretty laid back(it's what Kuta used to be like in the 70's and I'm sure that you're in for a fantastic holiday. Enjoy!
